Recovery Forum on March 5 in Boca Raton

Come share your experiences about recovery at a statewide community forum from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5 at Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center, 5150 Town Center Circle in Boca Raton, Fla.

Every day, Floridians face obstacles and barriers that prevent or make their chances to achieve long-term recovery from addiction difficult.

As a result, Faces & Voices of Recovery and recovery advocates in Florida are hosting Florida Community Forum: Addressing Barriers to Sustained Addiction Recovery.

It’s an open-dialogue town hall meeting to address discrimination and barriers facing people in or seeking long-term recovery from addiction.

Those in attendance will be encouraged to share their stories to educate the public and policymakers about barriers to recovery and strategies to support recovery. They will also be asked to speak out about policies and programs that have had a positive impact on sustained recovery.

Topics covered will include:
-- Housing and homelessness

-- Employment

-- Re-entry and criminal justice issues

-- Education

-- Family reunification

-- Public understanding of recovery

Those encouraged to attend are:
-- Members of the organized recovery community (including individuals in long-term recovery from addiction and co-occurring disorders, family members, and allies.)

-- Treatment and recovery support service providers

-- Experts in addiction, mental health, and co-occurring recovery

-- Policymakers

-- Business leaders

-- Representatives from other services (e.g., criminal justice, child welfare, social services, primary care, etc.)

The forum is co-sponsored by a number of organizations in the Florida recovery community, including: the Delray Recovery Center, Floridians for Recovery, intherooms.com, and the Southern Coast ATTC.
