Your child has a drug problem. Now what?

It takes courage and strength to face up to drug addiction. It also can be overwhelming to find the right treatment program.

Many parents ask: How do I find a program just right for my child? How do I pay for it? How do I get my child to go into treatment?

For starters, follow these steps:
  • Talk to your doctor.
  • Call 1-800-662-HELP to reach a free referral helpline from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
  • Contact your health insurance company.
  • Find out if your job offers an Employee Assistance Program with addiction counseling.

Taking care of yourself, as your child undergoes treatment, is equally important. Here’s how:
  • Remain strong, healthy, and clear-minded.
  • Educate yourself about substance abuse treatment.
  • Network with friends, relatives, medical professionals, and other parents.
  • Join a support group.
  • Learn about treatment centers in Palm Beach County.
  • Remember this: you are not alone.

Addiction is very common. Twenty-two million people have a current alcohol or other drug abuse problem in the United States and nearly 9 million of these people are under the age of 26. Many families are struggling with the exact same problem as you.

People who have the disease of addiction are individuals like your child, your neighbors, and your colleagues at work. Addiction cuts across all walks of life, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. It can happen to anyone.

Fortunately, addiction is treatable.

Your child can get well.
