Youth Activities
|
·
Kitty Bachard reported that the Peer Educator
program held at Crestwood
Middle School was very
successful with 55 attendees. The
“beer goggles” was a properly item that lead to constructive discussion.
·
Doris Carroll reported for JC Collins that Camp Blanding Peer
Educator Program will take place August 1-4.
Youth are being interviewed for their level of commitment to the Peer
Educator program Space is still
available.
·
Doris Carroll reported that negotiations are underway with PBSO to
establish a PBCSAC and Teen Center in the station in Palm Beach Gardens. Target date for opening is January 2006

Methamphetamine Task Force
|
Chris Lachirte presented an
over view of the upcoming conference to be held on May 25, 2004. Meth addiction is on the increase in Florida with most of
the flow coming into PBC from the South.
Addiction is not limited to the gay community. Conference includes information on
addiction and treatment, traffic patterns and developing resources.

Prescription Drug Abuse Forum
|
Doris Carroll reported that the
forum will be held on June 14, 2005.
National speakers will be on the agenda and CEU credits are
available. Registration fee is $50. For more information contact PBCSAC.

Community Assessment Team

Voting Members: MOU: Doris Carroll reported that in order to be a
voting member of the PBCSAC your organization must have a signed Memorandum
of Understanding with PBCSAC. A list
of current voting members was read and blank MOU forms were made available.
·
Website Update: Doris Carroll reported that the PBCSAC is
under on going enhancement construction.
When finished links to member organizations will be established. Member profiles will be an additional
planned enhancement.

CASASTART
|
John Fowler gave an overview of the
CASATRAT program. This middle school
based program is reporting from a 2004 assessment an initial success with 4
members successfully discharged and 45 families enrolled. Programs are operating in West Palm Beach and Belle Glade.

OPEN
DISCUSSION
|

Judge Ciklin affirmed that the next meeting will
be with held at the PBC Courthouse Judicial Dining Room with Judges Colton,
Blac, Alvarez and Barker in attendance.
This forum will allow PBCSAC members to make a short three minute
presentation to the judges about their programs in an effort to inform the
judges of additional resources in the community.

Judge Ciklin inquired if the group thought
that additional meetings with the Divorce Court and Juvenile
Justice Judges would be helpful and the group enthusiastically agreed.
·
Brette Sanford, Oceanview Church
reported that he had a need in his congregation to establish a support group
for parents dealing with teen addiction. Many offers were made to assist from
the group
·
Short presentations were made by the following
organizations: Florida Counsel on Compulsive Gambling – hand out of
materials, organization has neutral stance on gambling, offers certification
training program or organizations that want to address this issue. PBCSAC – Youth Committee accepting
applications for Camp
Blanding. Hanley
Hazelton Center
– Steroid Abuse Clinic on June 11th – free admission. Hospice by the Sea, Boca Raton will sponsor Camp Good Grief on
October 21st. The purpose
of the camp is to assist children ages 6-13 in adjusting to the loss of a
loved one. Elizabeth Nelson –
Acupuncture physician offers an additional treatment for addiction
recovery. Sarita Johnson, Social
Education Services offers ongoing support groups. Paul Moore, EPICC reported
that a workshop will be conducted on June 2nd in Belle Glade to share the latest data on
“Incidents and Trends in HIV/AIDS in western PBC. A discussion with a panel of local
residents will follow on what to do with the data. Dr. Kathie Clark, Sexual Health Services
has workshops for organizations that may not have their own in-house
training. Fees are based on a sliding
scale and workshops can be held on weekends.
Lusia Miranda, Transitions of America, offers substance abuse
treatment including evenings; anger management assessments.
