Welcome & Introductions

JHarriet Goldstein reviewed her work in compiling the Survey Questionnaire on Cultural Competence. She gave an overview stating that there were 29 agencies who participated in the survey including DJJ. Out of the total of 2723 surveys that were distributed, she got 1185 back. She also emphasized that the survey was initiated with joint efforts of Family HOPE and Cultural Competence Committee and later on other committees like Social Marketing were combined to jointly seek solution. Some of the highlights of the feedback are: Out of the total of 29 agencies, only 20 responded and 9 did not. Only two Executive Directors responded There were 8 agencies who did not require to provide data to warehouse. 7,124 Kids were served as per the feedback Ethnicity is not required to be identified by the state. Hence we are losing a big factor in the analysis. .

Some of the following issues are to be discussed from the survey:
  • Purpose and goals of C.C. Committee
  • Staff competence of agencies
  • Demographics
  • Compilation of Baseline data
  • Analysis of Survey in terms of Practices, Structures, Policies, and Attitudes

Kanu asked the committee members to give some idea about the topics to incorporate in the Cultural Exchange grant that the Federation is working on. He gave an overview of the grant which is available to be submitted to the Palm Beach County Cultural Development Fund committee. He asked Cathy Claud to commit cash match fund so that the Federation becomes eligible to get the funding from the grant. Cathy suggested that the Federation will have to write a letter to that effect to Dr. Woodley Please forward any corrections and/or additions to krsheth@msn.com .
